h2show

Week-long project aimed at quick concept generation and selection. Accompanied by a presentation of secondary research and motivation of the problem space.

Collaborators: Susan Coleman-Morse, Lorelei Kelley, Joseph Yelochan

problem space

With a duration of one week, we worked to very quickly pinpoint a problem space for this project and begin exploring it. By the end of the week we had framed a problem, explored a variety of approaches to it, and then generated a multitude of diverse concepts that dealt with the problem.

primary research and brainstorming

We planned and conducted a semi-structured focus group with four participants. We had three men in their twenties, and one woman in her twenties, all of whom lived in Bloomington, Indiana and were students at Indiana University.

We designed the focus group to explore the participants' interests in sustainability, as well as their notions of the relationship between sustainability and technology. We questioned them on topics ranging from awareness of topics in sustainability to the ways in which they perceive themselves to be sustainable or unsustainable. At the end, we collected objective data as to their preferences for specific sustainable technologies.

The focus of the project was to take our initial, exploratory data and create a large number of concepts and topics for us to work with. We planned to make sure we had enough variety before we started adding limitations, making sure we had a design that was worthwhile before we began digging really deep into it.
