artistic wayshowing in the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts Destination
Collaborators: Rachel Bolton, CJ Page, Ben Serrette
An exploration of using 'art as wayshowing' and 'wayshowing as art' to expand upon the cultural richness of Bloomington, Indiana's Entertainment and Arts Destination (BEAD).
The BEAD district covers a large amount of downtown Bloomington and was established and is maintained by the city of Bloomington. The goal of the BEAD district is not only to promote the continual growth of local artists, but also to help make people aware of the opportunities available to them in the district.
Early requirements for this project included rapid concept generation, early iteration, and constructed appearance prototypes in Adobe Photoshop. My goals in these early activities were to a) just sketch a lot of concepts and b) sketch concepts that were specifically aimed at generating interest in the topic.
After we had generated enough sketches to begin developing a system of concepts, we pinpointed certain ideas we thought deserved further iteration and created appearance prototypes to help illustrate them in a presentation. Before actually making the prototypes, Ben and myself went to the BEAD district and took photographs to serve as the bases for our work in Adobe Photoshop. The prototypes I created are provided here:
